Chemical vs Mineral Sunscreen: Which Is Better?
Neither chemical nor mineral sunscreen is universally “better.” Both are effective when applied in sufficient amount and reapplied on schedule; the meaningful differences are in texture, skin-type fit, and a few formulation trade-offs.

Which one should you choose
If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) tends to be better tolerated since it doesn’t need to be absorbed into skin to work. If texture and invisibility under makeup matter more to you and your skin tolerates it well, a chemical formula is a reasonable choice.
What actually matters most
The single biggest factor in sun protection isn’t which type you choose, it’s whether you apply enough of it and reapply on schedule. An SPF 30 mineral sunscreen applied correctly outperforms an SPF 50 chemical sunscreen applied too thinly.
